Welp. After my last bratty post, this one will be a refreshing change of pace.
Probably.
As some of you may know, I have attitude problems. I'll pause for a minute as you come to terms with that surprise...
Alright. I had a couple of bad days at work. I personally felt that my co-workers weren't doing their fair share of our workload, which meant that I had to pick up the slack, and it was making me angry. I was tired of bending over backwards for people, and not receiving the same consideration myself. And I was tired at being snapped at by people who had to deal with the same problems (guests) that I had to deal with. HOWEVER. I had an epiphany and I thought that I would try something new, like not being a bitch. And that's actually going great! If I purposefully decide to be happy when I come into work, then things go a lot smoother. If I'm relaxed and in the deliberate mood to go with the flow of whatever comes my way during work, then it's going to be a good day. Real mind blowing stuff, right? I'll probably write a self help book and make tens of dollars.
I trained as a hostess today and it was great. Sure, it was not a busy lunch and things were super calm, but all I had to do was walk people to tables while carrying menus. Well, I also have to know the table numbers and where they are in the dining room, but that's not hard. And I only had to work for a couple of hours and then the shift was finished. So much better than front desk! I didn't have to answer phones, and no one got angry with me, and I got to move around. I'm not going to quit front desk/reservations/bell person, but I want to make it clear that hostessing is easier and better. And I've basically been training as a busser informally for a couple of weeks now, so I know how to set tables for every meal. I haven't had to carry trays of food yet, thank God, because I'm kind of a little bit clumsy (also a shock to everyone, I'm sure).
I got a moose pin! I know that means nothing to anyone else because you don't work for Grand Teton Lodge Company, but for those of us in the cool kids club, it's pretty awesome. There are 3 pins they reward employees with: moose, bison, and bear pins. Bison pins are health and safety, bear pins are environment, and moose pins are quality. So I've been recognized for quality work! It's a pretty big deal, no lie. This is what my boss said when she nominated me: "Alex is constantly willing to come in early or stay late if it's busy at the desk. She even helps out in departments other than her own." I'm pretty excited about it.
That's my life. I'm pretty content with it. :)
