The mosquitoes here--they feast like kings

I didn't realize how crazy this past week had been until I started really thinking about everything that had happened. On Sunday I got sick at work (I worked reservations in the back office, so no guests knew I passed out and got sick). I was obviously sent home for a few hours, so I took a nap and after I finished running a fever a few hours later, I went back to work. From what I remember, Monday was a normal day. Tuesday was supposed to be my day off, but my supervisor hadn't had a day off for over a week and I was getting 4 days off in a row starting on Thursday, so I gave her my day off. I was scheduled for the midshift position for front desk, which just means I'm an extra front desk worker but my shift covers both shifts so information doesn't get lost when morning shift leaves and evening shift arrives. I ended up coming into work a half hour early because we had several departures and I was supposed to leave at 5:30PM. But the manager didn't think things though for the evening shift becasue he sent our bellman to the airport to pick up one of our guests during the busiest time of the evening. So that left the person scheduled to work the front desk alone for a couple of hours and they would have had to handle all arrivals (including leaving the desk to show people to their cabins and help with the bags), answer the phones, handle the vistors that came in with questions, greet the dinner guests, serve cocktails, and handle general 'go-for' duties. One person. To be in 6 different places at the same time. So I ended up working a 14 hour shift on Tuesday, when I was originally scheduled to work 0. Such is life.

I worked 62 hours last week, which will show up nicely in overtime pay. And the manager was not pleased about that, but he was the one who decided to send the bellman away for a few hours for a job the manager could have done easily himself and that would have made much more sense because then I wouldn't have had to cover the hours for the bellman and I wouldn't have gone into overtime (very much). And the manager was unreachable that night--he didn't pick up his work phone, home phone,or cell phone that night for 45 minutes whenI was trying to reach him even though he was the manager on duty. So it bothers me that I'm being lectured for something that was completely out of my control, in spite of the fact that I tried every other option available to me. We don't have enough front desk staff to complete every duty they throw at us so we have to go into overtime, but every time we go into overtime, we get lectured about being in overtime. Such is life.

Wednesday was normal though; I worked evening shift, which is only funny because I got off work around 11 and was waking up around 4:45AM the next morning to catch a plane. From Thursday until Sunday I was in Ohio. Thursday contained airplane rides from Jackson Hole to Denver to Columbus with a bit of a layover in Denver, which was good because I was calling all the guys coming to bachelor party and arranging for them to meet and carpool and telling them where they were going and what we were doing. And the only reason I find that amusing is because I was doing all that from Denver, Colorado and they were all in Ohio, and most of them were in Columbus specifically. :) Anyway, the party was great! We picked up tents from my dad (a 2 room tent for the guys and a separate tent for me so my honor was upheld, haha) and sleeping bags and chairs from my mom and John and then we all went to Dillon state park and set up the campsite. It took us a bit to get the tents set up--we've obviously all become cityfied--but Josh's cousin was there and he did most of the work for us even though he wasn't even spending the night. After we set up camp we had dinner at BW3s and then we went back to Dillon. I think it's funny that I left a national park where I can camp for free to pay to camp in a state park. But we talked and hung out for the rest of the night, the guys played a practical joke on Christian, and then we went out for donuts the next morning when we woke up. For the first bachelor party that I've planned and thrown, I think it was a success. Then we had the rehearsal dinner on Friday night, which was delicious and fun. The wedding was beautiful and I cried because I'm me. The reception was a lot of fun, too! I got to dance my heart out, which is a bit difficult to accomplish here in Wyoming. And then Andrew was my hero and drove me from Cincinnati to the Columbus airport where I hung out until my plane left, and then I flew from Columbus to Chicago (O'Hare has some really cool lights in the basement) to Denver to Jackson Hole. In the outfit I wore to the wedding, I want to add, so I was fairly dressed up from about 2PM on Saturday until 2PM on Sunday. It was a solid, packed, fun weekend...but I am pretty happy that I don't have to fly again until October. Flying is awesome, until you're in 4 airports on 3 planes across 2 timezones for about 12 hours. I was happy to get back to work today. It was great to see my family and friends and people from Jacob's Porch (I'm not saying people from Jacob's Porch aren't my friends, I was just saying it was great to see them specifically).

Plans for my New York trip are starting to come together. I'm going with one of my co-workers from Jenny and we're planning to go from December 26-January 2, so we'll be there during New Years, which should be cool and I'll only be gone from Columbus/the covenant house during winter break. We're working on getting hotel reservations now (because New Years in New York will be really crowded) and we're definitely going to see the Statue of Liberty and a couple of Broadway shows (our ideas are Chicago, The Addams Family, The Lion King, and The Phantom of the Opera), but other than that we're probably just going to wing it and go with the flow. I don't really like making a lot of plans for vacations or having an itinerary because I think it just leads to more stress, so we're just going to see what happens. But I'm pretty excited about it!

I'm pretty sure that's everything that's happened over the last little while in my life. All the pictures I've taken while I've been here are posted on Facebook; I'm still hoping for a chance to get a pictures of bears and wolves, but I've gotten moose, bison, and marmots so far and I'm okay with that. I haven't mountain climbed, horse back rode, or white water rafted yet but I'll get a chance sometime this summer. If anyone wants a postcard with either a heartfelt sentiment or a sarcastic retort (make sure you specify which you would prefer), just Facebook/comment/text me with your current address.

Love you all and talk to you soon :)
